Laugh and Love

Last night I met up with five girls at a coffee shop here in Nashville.  I was introduced to three of the five.  We were all there for one reason: to support a friend with an extremely ill father.  We sat and talked for a couple of hours, listening to her explain the latest news on her dad’s condition.  It was late and she had been at the hospital all day, so we did what girls do really well:  laugh and love.  We connected mutual friends, told stories and did our best to cover her with love that represented her past and present.  It was a sweet time.

I woke up this morning thinking about the night before and the importance of it in my own life.  Just today, I received a text message of encouragement from a close friend.  What a blessing!  Decision after decision, struggles, sadness, celebration, accomplishments- I’ve received support and love.  It’s important.  People need it.  I need it.  For big reasons, this world can bring us down fast.  Day in and day out, there are hundreds of insecurities and fears that plague our culture.  As a friend, family member, or kind stranger, let’s try to remember to give as much or even more than we receive.  What a difference that would make; and to top it all off, there is a God who shows grace and offers encouragement every moment.  That motivation goes beyond all else for me.  But what a responsibility and difference we are able to make because of Him.  The spoken word is a powerful thing.

My prayer for you today is that when you receive a word of encouragement or are given support, you become aware of it and pay it forward to someone who may need it big time.  Last night I met up with five girls at a coffee shop…and I left filled up by seeing the hearts of people who love one another well.

“May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.  Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.”

Romans 15: 5-7

Love, Sarah

Yesterday I realized just how often I need my friends for support, advice or encouragement and how infrequently I spontaneously offer that to them. I sent each of them an email asking how I can pray for them. They all had specific things they were looking to God for help with and it felt so nice to be able to stand with them in that.

it's so true Melissa. I often forget how important it is to ask people how i can pray for them…praying with friends and for friends is truly a gift. thanks for your comment!
