Today I had the privilege to listen to my dear friend and mentor Sherry Surratt talk about “Engaging Women in Leadership”. Sherry is the Director for Women’s Initiatives in Leadership for Leadership Network and she is one of the greatest champions for women leaders that I have ever met. Every time I am near Sherry I feel inspired, encouraged and empowered – exactly what we say we want Cultivate Her to be about. A few minutes with Sherry and I remember why I do what I do, I feel energized enough to keep going and I have a bit more confidence because I know another woman is out there thinking about me and praying for me.

If I’m learning anything in leadership these days, it’s that I want to be that kind of encouragement to other women around me. So often I think we under-estimate the power of our voice in other women’s lives. We truly need each other!

I hope you’ll join us this Friday for our next Cultivate Her event where you can be inspired and encouraged too!

This is me, somewhere around the age of 4 or 5 in my “fancy dress.” Truth is… this is nothing more than a nightgown that I somehow determined was my fancy dress. When I put my fancy dress on I believed it transformed me into this amazing entertainer, wowing the crowds with my vocal prowess… and my gorgeous dress (of course).

This was back in the day when I still dreamed… uninhibited. I wasn’t insecure, self-conscious or reserved. It never cross my mind that others would question whether I could achieve my dreams.

I believed that I could be anything, do anything, and change everything if I wanted to.

But somewhere along the way I quit putting my fancy dress on. I quit dreaming. I quit believing.

I’m not suggesting that every fancy dress dream was God’s design for my life, but when we quit dreaming I believe we suffocate the giftedness that God has placed within us. We lose the freedom of discovering God’s design and plan for our lives.

It’s time to put our fancy dresses back on. It’s time to dream again uninhibited. It’s time to discover how God has wired you, designed you and inspired you!

Join us Friday, February 26th for our next Cultivate Her event where we’ll be talking about

“Dream Anatomy – Creating the structure to realize your dreams”.

RSVP Here (fancy dress not required)

It’s time to DREAM!

Just for fun… did you have a favorite outfit when you were a child that helped you dream big dreams? What was it?

Hi everyone! My name is Jenni Catron. I serve as the Executive Director of Cross Point Church in Nashville, TN where I lead a staff of 30 at three campuses. I love a fabulous cup of tea, great books, learning the game of tennis, and hanging out with my husband and border collie. I’m passionate about leadership and equipping others to lead well.

And I’m a closet dreamer.

If you meet me you’ll encounter a very practical, problem solving, get-it-done, A-type, responsible individual. But underneath that composed exterior are some dreams that have been brewing for years. Dreams that excite me and yet scare me to death. Dreams that if I shared with someone over a cup of tea I’m afraid they would laugh out loud with tea spraying from nose, mouth, ears and eyes or even worse, give me that blank stare complete with a placating “oh, that’s a nice idea honey.”

You know the kind of fear I’m talking about.

And that’s what Cultivate Her is. It’s one of my dreams. A dream that after years of journal scribbles and the occasional passing comment made to a few friends, I took a monster step (for me) to gather a group of friends and beg them to begin the journey with me. Surprisingly (again, too me, because I work these things up in my head) I didn’t have to do much begging. These friends got it. They were longing for it too and my guess is that so are you.

Through my journey as a woman leader, I have often found myself very isolated and longing for more connectivity with other women leaders. Cultivate Her was started out of a passion to create a place for leadership-minded women to connect and encourage one another. I believe the more we equip and encourage each other, the greater our confidence will be and the greater the opportunities we’ll have to lead.

Cultivate Her is a leadership environment where women are inspired, challenged and encouraged in their leadership growth. No matter what your leadership influence looks like, your gifts will be cultivated to encourage you to embrace our motto “wherever you lead, lead well!”

And speaking of dreams, that’s what we’ll be talking about THIS Friday at our next Cultivate Her event. January’s topic is “Dream Anatomy – Creating the structure to realize your dreams”.

My guess is that you, like me, have a God-given dream buried somewhere. At some point you faced some criticism, fear or discouragement that caused you to leave that dream tucked away, buried in your heart somewhere. Are you willing to at least give it another look?

If so, I hope you’ll join us this Friday. We have an exciting morning planned for you and I can’t wait to hear about your dreams too!

Cultivate Her January Event

Friday, January 29th

7:00-8:30 AM

Cross Point Church Gym – 4301 Charlotte Ave Nashville 37209

If you have not already RSVP’d through evite or facebook, could you leave a quick comment and let us know you’re coming?

**By the way, for those of you not in the Nashville area, we’ll be using the blog to share notes, highlights and video from the event. Stay tuned!

I’m excited to be able to speak into your life today. My name is Jessica and I am the younger sister of the amazing Jenni Catron. Its exciting that I get to be apart of a community that wants to learn how to be the most amazing women leaders we can possibly be.

I have been a leader for as long as I can remember. From leading the kids in a game of “chase the boys” on the play ground to leading a staff of 50+ teens and young adults (that honestly are not much younger then me) to effectively running a business and servicing customers.

So how do I know if I’m a good leader? Here is a quote I found that I think keeps me in check:

“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” John Quincy Adams

I forget that as a leader, I’m always being watched. So this year I am going to try to inspire others just by my actions.

So here’s a good question, “Do your actions inspire others to dream more?”
